#852 Flyer™ Cruiser Step-Thru 2.0 Rear Wheel Removal & Install

Follow the steps below to remove and install the rear wheel on your #852 Flyer™ Cruiser Step-Thru 2.0.

     Tools Needed:18mm crescent wrench or adjustable wrench, cable cutters, cable ties, something to cushion the front forks (towel, book, foam etc.)

     Compatible Models: Flyer™ 852

Getting the Bike Ready for Servicing

  1. Follow the front wheel removal guide before proceeding.
  2. Remove the seat.

  3. Remove the battery.

  4. Press and hold the power button the display to discharge any remaining power in the bike.

  5. Tilt the front of the bike forward, allowing the front fork to rest on the floor
    • Provide a cushion if necessary to protect the paint on the fork

Removing the Rear Wheel

  1. Snip the 3 zip ties securing the motor cable to the bike.

  2. Disconnect the motor cable by pulling the connectors apart.

  3. Pull the motor cable free from the derailleur guard, then remove the axle nut cover.

  4. Remove the fender stay bolts on either side of the bike.

    Drive Side

    Brake Side

  5. Use an 18mm or an adjustable wrench to remove the nut and washer from the brake side of the rear wheel.

  6. Use a wrench to remove the nut and washer from the opposite side of the rear wheel. Once this axle nut is free, the derailleur guard can be removed.

  7. Pull the rear wheel free from the bike.
    • Press downward on the rear wheel while holding the frame to loosen the rear wheel in the dropouts
    • Pull backward on the derailleur and guide the chain around the rear axle
    • Lift the frame upward and allow to rest on the front dropouts and kickstand

Installing the Rear Wheel

  1. Seating the chain
    • Set the wheel near the rear of the bike between the dropouts.
    • Pull back on the derailleur and allow the chain to wrap over freewheel.

    • A 10 mm wrench or adjustable wrench can be used to rotate the axle into position.

  2. Reinstalling the Hardware
    • Reinstall a washer and axle nut onto the brake side of the rear axle by hand.
    • Press down on the frame to ensure the axle is fully seated in the dropout. Then, use a wrench tighten the axle nut to 40Nm.

    • Reinstall the derailleur guard over the drive side of the rear axle. Pull the motor cable out and over the guard.

    • Reinstall a washer and axle nut onto the axle by hand.
    • Press down on the frame to ensure the axle is fully seated in the dropout. Then, use a wrench tighten the axle nut to 40Nm.

    • Align the fender stay with the holes on either side of the frame. Secure each side with a bolt, lock washer, and washer. Use a 3mm allen wrench to tighten.

Reconnecting the Motor

  1. Insert the end of the motor cable through the opening in the axle nut cover.  Slide the cover over the cable and fit into place on the axle nut. Be sure the opening is axle toward the front of the bike to avoid putting strain on the motor cable.

  2. Reconnect the motor cable.

    Ensure the motor connection is fully seated.

  3. Secure the motor cable in place with 3 zip ties.

Preparing to Ride

  1. Reinstall the battery.

  2. Reinstall the seat. Secure by firmly clamping in place.

  3. Test bike fully before riding.
