Bedding-in is a method of breaking in your bike’s new brake pads
Note: It is not unusual for there to be some brake rubbing or noise present in new bikes. This should usually resolve on its own after the bike has been broken in (around 25-30 miles ridden). Bedding-in your brakes can help quicken the process.
- Take your bike to a flat area with ample room to ride around, clear of obstructions, hills, and traffic.
- Turn on your bike.
- Without using the throttle and with pedal assist set to 0 or 1, ride at 10 mph.
- While riding, squeeze one brake lever slowly. Slow your bike but do not brake hard enough to completely stop.
- When the bike has slowed to walking speed, let go of the brake lever. The bike should continue rolling forward.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 around 10 times in a row with the same brake lever.
- Repeat steps 3-6 with the second brake lever.
- Repeat steps 3-6 with the first brake lever, but this time bike a bit faster at 15mph.
- Repeat steps 3-6 with the second brake lever, but this time bike a bit faster at 15mph.
Preparing to Ride
- Test bike fully before riding.
